Babar Khan is a professional engineer and experienced hydropower specialist with 16 years of experience in the operation, supervision, and management of hydroelectric generating stations. Recently, acting as the Institutional Development Specialist, Mr. Khan led the development of the Business Plan for Rusumo Power Company Ltd., to manage the operations and maintenance (O&M) of the 80MW Rusumo Falls Hydropower Project, which is jointly owned and developed by Burundi, Rwanda, and Tanzania and funded by the World Bank.
Before becoming an Independent Consultant, Mr. Khan held the position of Director of Development and Operations at Regional Power Inc., a subsidiary of Manulife Financial, where he managed the full-cycle development of five greenfield hydropower projects and led the O&M of 11 hydropower generating facilities. As an Independent Consultant, Babar has consulted for a variety of organizations, including Capstone Power Infrastructure Corp., Manitoba Hydro International and World Bank Group.
Mr. Khan’s education includes both a Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Business Administration degrees. His background has encompassed several leadership roles as well as a wide range of technical and managerial experience in the Canadian and international power sectors. He has worked in Canada, Mexico, Nepal and Rwanda among other countries.
