I am passionate about ensuring equitable access to quality prevention, diagnosis, and treatment around the globe. I believe knowledge is a key resource for empowering vulnerable populations and attaining better health.
I have 5 years of basic science research experience working on projects related to HIV immunology and women’s sexual and reproductive health. I spent two of those years working internationally in Durban, South Africa where I led and managed our international laboratory site.
Living in South Africa provided me with insight into to the underlying social determinants that have shaped the HIV epidemic and continue to drive the many health challenges that we face as a global society. That experience compelled me to step out of the lab and back into the classroom in order to learn how to better understand and respond to the complex factors that influence the prevention and management of critical global health challenges.
I bring an analytical, evidence-based approach to the pursuit of my interest in the epidemiology of infectious and emerging diseases. I want to work as an enthusiastic member of a team of global health professionals seeking to develop, implement, and evaluate innovative and community-centered solutions to address critical health concerns in low-resource settings around the world.
