Coenraad d.

Coenraad de Beer is dedicated to ensuring children and young people are safe and protected from harm. In his current role as Child Care & Safeguarding Team Leader for SOS Children’s Villages International, he worked on awareness and prevention initiatives aimed at reducing harm to children and young people; led the development of clear child safeguarding reporting & responding procedures; established reliable and anonymous whistleblowing channels; introduced regular reporting to senior management and governance bodies; supported the orientation and training of co-workers; and monitored compliance to the internal child protection policy and international child safeguarding standards. Under his leadership, SOS Children’s Villages International achieved Keeping Children’s Safe Level 1 certification. This confirms SOS Children's Villages has developed a child safeguarding framework to protect children from harm and has processes for responding effectively when incidents occur. Coenraad de Beer started his social development career in 1996 in South Africa, where he worked with communities neighbouring conservation areas on issues pertaining to natural resource utilization and a number of tourism development projects. During this time, he became aware of the impact of HIV and AIDS on families and children in vulnerable communities. In 2002, he joined SOS Children's Villages South Africa, where in different roles he was responsible for supporting and establishing programmes aimed at children without adequate parental care as a result of HIV and AIDS. The strengthening of community initiatives and networks to support vulnerable children and their families was central to this approach. In 2010, he joined the international office of SOS Children's Villages International in Innsbruck, Austria, as Programme Development Advisor. In 2013, he was appointed as Team Leader with the task to strengthen child care & safeguarding within the organisation.
