Jane is an established data leader and researcher with nearly 12 years of experience advancing public and private organizations’ strategic use and management of data to equitably improve people’s lives. Known for working with a network of academic institutions, international local and national governments, data science organizations, application developers, and foundations to advance the responsible use of ethical data practices, products, and governance standards to directly impact women and children’s lives across the globe. Jane is a senior advisor at the Johns Hopkins University Centers for Civic Impact where she provides coaching and mentoring to city government executive leaders across dozens of cities including Chicago, Pittsburgh, Washington DC, Asheville, and Charlotte to align mayoral and strategic priorities with data management, governance, and technological solutions to drive efficiency, transparency and sustainability across multiple city departments to provide impactful and equitable services to residents. As the Data Lead at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health for The Challenge Initiative, one of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s largest programmatic investments in reproductive health, she coached local government, data, and public/private health staff across 100 cities in Africa and Asia to advance the adoption of locally created data tools, techniques, and practices. She also provided technical support to scaling up reproductive and maternal newborn child health service delivery programs in India and Francophone Africa in in accordance with local and global FP2020 and SDG goals. As a Technical Advisor for the United States Agency for International Development under the Obama Administration, she supported the scaling of data practices and family planning and reproductive health programs in over 12 countries across West and East Africa. She has a PhD in Sociology and Demography from The University of Texas at Austin, a Masters in Sociology from The University of Texas at Austin, and a BA in Sociology and Religion from Coe College. She has active security clearance and has lived and worked across Asia and Africa for over 20 years.
