Jessica Ogden

Jessica A. Ogden, has rejoined ICRW, now acting as Senior Technical Specialist, Business Development. In this new role, Dr. Ogden uses her technical background and experience to identify and cultivate new partnerships to support the work of ICRW's mission and technical portfolios. From 2008 until May 2014, Dr.Ogden was Director of Ogden Health & Development Connections, a consultancy firm engaged in research, analysis and writing on gender and global public health. Dr. Ogden has been working as a social anthropologist in public health for over 20 years. After completing her PhD fieldwork on the social context of HIV risk and vulnerability for urban women in Uganda in 1995, Dr. Ogden joined the staff of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, where she served as Lecturer then Senior Lecturer in Social Anthropology through December 2001. During this period Dr. Ogden was part of the DFID-funded Tuberculosis Knowledge Programme, and was involved in designing and conducting implementation and health policy research on tuberculosis policy and programming. From May 2002 to early 2008, Dr. Ogden worked at the International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) in Washington DC, serving as a Senior Technical Specialist in the HIV/AIDS and Development Unit, and acting as Senior Technical Advisor to ICRW’s President from 2006-2008. While at ICRW Dr. Ogden led research on a range of topics relating to HIV-related stigma, HIV prevention policy and gender, and was involved in the development of guidelines and policy recommendations for the integration of gender into AIDS and other development programs. Dr. Ogden has published widely in the peer-reviewed press and contributed to several edited volumes on AIDS, public health ethics, gender and tuberculosis. She holds a Ph.D. in Social Anthropology from the University of Hull, UK.
