Karen H.

I am an experienced international health development professional with a special interest in promoting the efficacy of a Primary Health Care approach. I also have a commitment to support other, less experienced health professionals to enter the international health development domain. Encouraging sustainable improvements in developing country communities through strengthening the capacity of local health workers and communities is a key goal. I also look to opportunities to serve in other areas, and as an experienced Board Director I am working to support not-for-profits in achieving their mission. I currently serve on the board of Directors for Save the Children Australia, bringing both my development experience and commitment to child safety and child survival together to contribute to breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. Recently I have been privileged to be part of the inauguration of Banks Creek Retreat Inc, an initiative to support Emergency Services (Police, Ambulance, Fire and SES) First Responders, in collaboration with Stand Tall for PTSD (for the Australian Defence Services active and returned service), people and their families struggling with PTSD. I also have a deep commitment to Closing the Gap on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people's disadvantage, particularly through initiatives to improve health outcomes for women and children. I am a Fellow of the College of Nursing Australia, Fellow of the Institute of Managers and Leaders Australia and New Zealand and a Graduate and Member, Australian Institute of Company Directors.
