Lourdes E. Garcia is a Mexican citizen raised in the border town of McAllen Texas. Recent B.A. graduate in Global Studies from St. Edward's University in Austin Texas and current M.A Candidate at American University School of International Service. Growing up she experienced the best of both worlds in regards to Mexican and American culture. She quickly grew fond on the impact culture has on society and human progress. Her interest in language encouraged her to become proficient in both Spanish and English, and she is currently perfecting Japanese.
Lourdes, is passionate about culture, poverty alleviation, economic inequity and development. She is currently working on a research project that explores how cultural values shape economic and political success. She believes culture has been strongly undermined and has fallen short in the academic field, it is often seen as a retrograde rather than a medium that explains theories of development. Through her research she hopes to bring culture to the fore by arguing that culture can go a long way towards explaining the behavioral differences that are reflected in the divergent political, social and economic development of societies. With this in mind, she strives to help think tanks and development organizations establish successful developmental policies that contribute to economic and social development.
