Maame Esi Eghan is a 2nd year student at the University of Virginia majoring in Foreign Affairs and Global Environments and Sustainability, with a minor in French. As a Ghanaian who lived in Ghana for the first fourteen years of her life, Maame Esi strives to understand and engage in sustainable development from a cultural and technical perspective. She strives to help advance the health and wellbeing of her fellow Ghanaian citizens by employing the skills she acquires from her major towards a more environmentally sound Ghana. Additionally, recognizing the gap between male and female Ghanaian professionals, Maame Esi helped found the non profit organization, Yielding Accomplished African Women with the mission to unite young Ghanaian women from diverse backgrounds and disciplines to develop a gender specific professional toolkit to succeed in finance and technology related career fields. As the Chief Financial Officer, Maame Esi has successfully received donations from various endownments and organizations at UVA as well as a partnership with Bank of America. To learn more visit On Grounds, Maame Esi participates and leads alongside members in the CIOs Green Grounds, Global Development Organization and WriteClimate. These organizations all focus on the amelioration of the environment which Maame Esi considers imperative to ensure the survival of humankind. Currently working on several projects that bring attention to and emphasize the continuation of sustainable measures, Maame Esi foresees creating a non profit organization that works with African governments to ensure a cleaner environment for all.
