Marianne has worked as a free-lance human rights consultant in multi-disciplinary settings on disarmament, comparative constitutional law, National Human Rights Institutions, monitoring, freedom of speech, social rights, participation, rights-based development, and inclusion of persons with disabilities for more than a decade.
A former student of the University of Sydney Law School and a graduate of the University of Vienna Law School (SJD equivalent), she earned a Master’s in International Human Rights, including course work in anthropology and heterodox economics at the University of Notre Dame. Marianne’s aspiration is to be a human being with a law degree rather than a lawyer.
Frequently trusted with politically sensitive missions, she is known for her ability to stay firm on diplomatic messaging. She frequently works for giz, DFAT, UNDP, ICBL, among others. Her distinguished strategic abilities are sought after by clients keen to contextualize their ideas whilst holding on to a long-haul view.
Marianne’s capacity to discern complex issues is frequently relied on for both reports but also workshops as well as speaking engagements. In addition to reports, Marianne has drafted legislative text, proposals for United Nations policy documents and briefing papers for a range of political levels.
Marianne is a Member of the Board of the Global Initiative on Psychiatry and serves on the Scientific Advisory Board of the Austrian Anti-Poverty Network.
Marianne previously served on the EU Fundamental Rights Agency Advisory Board from 2014-2017 and coordinated the Austrian civil society platform for the Universal Periodic Review in 2011 & 2015. Marianne served as the inaugural Chair of the Monitoring Committee for the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Austria from 2008-2015.
