Mark Summerton specialises in the programme management of international development projects that focus on sustainable and climate resilient development, with a special interest in reliable water supply. His complementary expertise is extensive including climate risk and vulnerability assessments, adaptation option analysis, pre-feasibility project development, technical hydrological – climate impact assessment modelling, water resources decision support systems in GIS frameworks, water services feasibility studies and development plans, as well as proposal development for climate funding. The complex nature of this work has often involved developing, working in and leading diverse teams. Before joining ICF Mark spearheaded AECOM’s climate resilience efforts in Africa which often involved matching development needs and programmes with appropriate climate funding such as the GCF and pre-feasibility assessments of adaptation options. More recently, Mark is leading the climate resilience component of an Integrated Resource and Resilience Planning Project in Ghana, West Africa. This work embraces most aspects of climate change including the development of a risk and vulnerability assessment toolkit to assist with integration of climate change into Ghana’s planning process and exploring means of funding climate resilience through for example, the development of proposals for the Green Climate Fund.
