Matthew Hodes is the Director of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, a special initiative of the Secretary-General. His career has focused on efforts to advance peace processes, pursue justice at home and abroad, and help civil society to advance broad goals of international development. He has served as a senior leader and manager with international organizations, non-governmental organizations and has also practiced law on domestic and international levels. He also has past experiences with academia, having taught classes in international organizations and international negotiations theory and practice. From 2001-2007 he worked at The Carter Center and was Director of its Conflict Resolution Program working on unofficial diplomacy projects in Venezuela, Nepal and the Middle East. Between 2007 and 2013 he served clients in a consulting capacity covering a wide range of issues in the international relations field.
