Michael C.

United States

Summary

My passion is international development work with a focus on public health and environment. My interests in language learning and culture exchange have opened opportunities to work with a variety of globally minded NGOs, including: Colombia Support Network, Sarvodaya USA, and Caritas International. Currently, I am a Community Health Worker in Peace Corps Madagascar - a US government program that provides technical assistance to developing countries while promoting cross cultural understanding. I live in a small village of 2000 people where I am currently leading a latrine building project in 16 villages to increase community sanitation and decrease gastrointestinal disease. I have led community behavior change projects on nutrition, malaria, family planning, and infectious disease. I also run a youth group to promote gender equality and youth empowerment. In my spare time, I take my chicken for walks and sing karaoke with my neighbors at the local market. I have proven flexibility, cultural sensitivity, and dedication acquired through wide variety of employment and service. I have excelled in difficult environments with few resources and love a challenge! Let's make the world a better place together. Feel free to contact me directly at michaelcook@uwalumni.com
