Mohammed N.

United Kingdom

Summary

I would like to help shape the future of the NGO sector by reducing the need for it. A seemingly impossible task, considering the growing population and an ever-changing landscape of geopolitical climate but strive we must, to effectively eradicate poverty and reliance on handouts. The driving force behind this ambition is based on my personal journey that began 8 years ago when I first volunteered with one of the largest charities in the UK, which was established as a result of the Ethiopian famine in the early 1980’s. After hearing about the motivation of its formation, I found myself at the launch of their East Africa crisis campaign a year later and thought, how could we let this happen again? 30 years on and Millions on the brink of starvation, many more dying from preventable diseases, an absolute tragedy. What is needed, apart from more funds, powerful advocacy and lobbying, is to better manage and co-ordinate the resources/projects we currently have, which is why I feel I can add value from my compliance/audit background and knowledge of the sector, to help develop strategies and policies to provide an immediate and long-term solution to promote self-sufficiency, growth and sustainability.
