I oversee the Artificial Intelligence organization at Axon, a team of research scientists and engineers across three geographical locations. Axon is the world leader in connected public safety technologies, including body-worn cameras and related cloud services. My team is committed to using *responsible AI* to improve public safety and enhance people's lives. Formerly at Uber, Microsoft, and Toyota in various research and engineering roles. My PhD thesis, titled "Developmental Learning Networks for Integrated Type, Location and Shape Perception", was a precursor to single-pass detection and recognition deep learning models such as YOLO and SSD. In 2010, I built and open-sourced a deep learning library based on PyCuda and Cython which was used by hundreds of researchers in the pre Cafe/Tensorflow era. In 2004 and 2005, I worked on autonomous soccer player robots which won the RoboCup world championship both years.
