I hold doctor of medicine (MD) and Masters of Business Administration in International Business (MBA-IB) degrees. I have certificates of Reproductive Health Leadership, Leading Management Teams, Results-based Monitoring and Evaluation and Integrated Project Management. I have a working experience of 15 years. I have senior management working experience of over nine years.
I am currently working with Thamini Uhai (formerly World Lung Foundation Tanzania) as the Executive Director for two years now. I worked in the same organization, when it was called World Lung Foundation Tanzania as the Country Director in Tanzania for three years and three months. I am leading a maternal health program, implemented in three regions of the country, mainly funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies. My roles include leading and supporting staff in the strategic planning, program designing, timely and cost-effective implementation of the program, overseeing all projects management, financial management and human resources management aspects of the program and managing the overall relationships with the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children(MoHCDGEC), President’s Office-Regional Administration and Local Governments(PO-RALG) ministry, national , international partners and donors, and ensure that the program is meeting its objectives. I also lead the new business development initiatives of the organization.
I am a member of Global Senior Management Team of Vital Strategies, an organization Thamini Uhai is affiliated to, and which was formed from the merging World Lung Foundation and Union North America. Vital Strategies is headquartered in New York City, United States of America.
I am also a board member of Thamini Uhai and White Ribbon Alliance Tanzania.
I worked as a Reproductive Health Director at PSI/Tanzania for two years (2011-2013).My major role was to ensure effective leadership and strategic management of PSI/Tanzania’s Reproductive Health department in order to reach program deliverables and achieve expected health impact. I led a department of 9 staff members and supporting programmatic work done by over 100 staff members. The program activities covered all regions of mainland Tanzania. Through the job I became more skilled in strategic leadership, programme management (planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation), people management, proposal writing/resource mobilization, advocacy and financial management. Due to achievements during my leadership period, I received an Executive Award for best performance at PSI/Tanzania in 2012.
I worked for two years (2009-2011) as a Zonal Manager at PSI/Tanzania, overseeing programs activities implementation in five regions of the country. Through the role I gained much experience in administrative, financial and people management. I also became more skilled in leadership, improving teamwork, motivating subordinates. Due to the width of the job, I also became more skilled in prioritising, managing activities of many projects at the same time, coordinating activities in a complex environment and collaborating with many other organisations.
I have experience of working as a Project Manager of a non-communicable diseases project in the private health sector for one and a half years, during which I facilitated initiation of 79 non-communicable diseases clinics in private health facilities and initiated non-communicable diseases education in 79 primary schools. I managed to make the project successful and highly commended by the donor.
Prior to these management roles, I worked as a medical officer in various institutions for about four years including the medical internship year.
