N. Ranaivoarivelo holds a Ph.D in Rural Geography and is specialized in the interface between environmental and agricultural sectors. She has conducted research on a large range of topics, including use and management of rural space, productive systems, farming and animal raising practices. Action research was an important component of her position as Program Director at CARE International in Madagascar which she has occupied for the last 10 years. She was fully responsible in the areas of operations and strategic and pragmatic relationships, which gave her a broad vision of development actions at different levels. She provided leadership and guidance to CARE Madagascar in developing its program portfolio, in maintaining strategic relationships with a large array of institutional, technical and financial partners and development actors, and in building a long-term programmatic vision. During the Hubert Humphrey Fellowship Program (based at the University of California-Davis, 2014-2015) she focused on the linkages between ecosystems, agricultural production systems, communities dependent on natural resources, and the challenges posed by increasing climate variability. She is currently leading a $30,000,000 multi-sectorial Title II/USAID Food For Peace-funded program in Niger.
