I am the Chief of Party (COP) of the USAID Higher Education for Economic Growth activity (HEA) in El Salvador, that is implemented by RTI International. The investment has been $22 million, executed from June 2014 to June 2019 in 12 universities around the country. The project builds partnerships between industry sectors and higher education institutions to develop demand-driven educational programs and research, improve faculty members’ educational competencies that in turn build professionals who contribute to industry growth, stimulating economic and social development. I am a higher education expert, with a combined 31 years of experience in academia and the private sector. My background includes 21 years in higher education having worked as a teacher, IT Manager, Vice Provost in technical education, as Vice Rector of Science and Technology at Don Bosco University and currently as COP of HEA. I have experience working with international cooperation like USAID, German cooperation (GIZ) and others. I have significant private sector experience, having started my career in business working as an IT manager at the Salvadoran Coffee Council, ITCA–FEPADE and later at RRDonnelly. In my current position, I engage with the private sector serving as a member of the Board of Directors of FOMILENIO II (MCC project funded US government), on the Board of Directors for FONDEPRO-MINEC, and as member of PROINNOVA-FUSADES; in the USAID Higher Education for Economic Growth activity I have worked with Industry – Universities and Government. In social area, I am a Rotary member of Maquilishuat Rotary Club in El Salvador. I have a PhD in Education (Magna cum Laude) from Technical University of Dresden (Germany), a Master in Strategic Management and Innovation from Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, Master degree in Innovation Management from Universidad Don Bosco (Magna cum Laude) and a Master Business Administration from Universidad Centroamericana José Simeón Cañas (UCA); a bachelor degree in Science Computer from UCA.
