Summary

I am Renee, originally from the Philippines and currently living in Norwich. I am a Communications Specialist who focusses on advocacy communications. I have been working for the non-profit sector in the past seven years and have helped different organisations in their media and communication. I have worked in different issues on human rights and climate change such as freedom of information, women's rights, climate justice, democracy, and human trafficking, to name a few. Some of the campaigns I have led ended up being picked up by mainstream media in the Philippines. For example, this digital campaign against historical revisionism of the past dictatorship became viral and was eventually picked by the leading newspaper in the country: http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/642612/art-group-alarmed-by-pro-marcos-likes-memes-on-social-media. In the last three years, I have concentrated on science communication, mainly for climate change and the environment. I have worked with Climate Tracker, a global network of journalists, in translating technical policy and scientific terms into more relatable stories. I have worked on lifestyle, news, and investigative pieces to talk about climate change. I’ve led a communications team to create videos and photo stories that will help people understand what climate change is about. I have also worked as a freelance journalist, publishing articles mostly on climate change issues in different publications. Here are some examples of my work (articles): https://www.asiasentinel.com/econ-business/philippine-energy-company-pollutes-harrasses-opponents/ https://www.asiasentinel.com/econ-business/loss-damage-climate-change-latest-byword/ https://asiancorrespondent.com/2015/11/women-indigenous-rights-are-crucial-to-a-climate-agreement/#SHlPrGrW68hQRjGz.97 http://climatetracker.org/cop-23-need-know-loss-damage/ http://climatetracker.org/minimalism-trend-will-it-save-the-planet/ Here are the social media communities/accounts I manage and produce content for: http://facebook.com/climatetracker http://twitter.com/climatetracking http://instagram.com/climatetracker In fact, my work has led to The Guardian recognising me as one of “The young climate campaigners to watch before the UN’s Climate Summit” in 2015 (http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/jun/10/young-climate-campaigners-paris-cop21). Recently, I led a team of photojournalists to publish a photo book project that tells the story of how climate change affects cultures and traditions around the world. I led the project from fundraising to publishing. The book is now available for purchase at Amazon (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ilnamiqui-Climate-Tracker/dp/1979745986/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1520854434&sr=8-2&keywords=ilnamiqui), and photo exhibits will be held in different countries like Peru and Belgium. Media and communications is a passion. I believe in the power of media and communications in influencing the public and in helping change behaviours. It is an important tool in reaching an intended audience. I also want to continue growing in my career on advocacy communications.
