With a background in law and international studies, Ms. Nyaga has a passion for research with the extensive governance field being the area of focus. She has researched and advised on elections and electoral systems, constitutions and constitutionalism, the law of armed conflict (international humanitarian law) and conflict management. Some of the topics she has explored are: "An Examination of Legitimacy of Elections: Case Study of Electoral Management in Kenya 2002-2007"; and, "Elections, Peace and Security - Are Elections the Main Threats to the Relative Peace Situation in West Africa?"
Amongst the organisations that Ms. Nyaga has worked with are: the defunct Constitution of Kenya Review Commission; the defunct Independent Review Commission (Kriegler Commission); the African Union, both as a researcher and election observer; and, the Red Cross disseminating international humanitarian law in regions facing conflicts such as Mt. Elgon region of Western Kenya in 2007.
Ms. Nyaga has played a crucial role in strengthening the Kenya Parliament into the transformative institution it currently is. As Deputy Chief of Party with the Parliamentary Strengthening Programme funded by USAID &DFID and implemented by the State University of New York (SUNY), she backstopped training programmes, monitoring and evaluation and reporting, as well as leading legislative review, in particular, legislation aimed at reforming governance institutions.
