Troy M.

South Africa

I'm a passionate social activist and strive to make a positive impact in any position I hold. “Those who are crazy enough to think they can change the world usually do,” as said by Steve Jobs is my mantra. With 10 years of experience in the media and communications industry as well as in the area of politics, I have developed extensive knowledge of both the private and the public sector environment in South Africa. I began my career as a journalist at the Daily News newspaper in Durban. I made the transition to broadcast journalism by becoming a news reporter at eNCA, formerly the eNews Channel. I won a Vodacom Journalist of the Year Award in the television news category, and spent a month in the United States participating in the prestigious CNN Journalism Fellowship at CNN headquarters in Atlanta. My desire to serve my country and make a positive contribution to society saw me taking up the position of Communications Manager at the ANCWL, the women's section of the ruling political party in South Africa. During my time there I was able to raise the profile of the organisation by bringing it back into the public discourse, and see them once again being the authority on gender issues in South Africa. I was named one of the country’s 200 most influential youth in the politics on the Mail&Guardian Young 200 list in 2012. Working at the Headquarters of the ruling party in Government was an invaluable learning opportunity where I developed an intimate knowledge of the political environment, and was able to build relations with many of the country’s top political influencers. I'm currently the Spokesperson for the Minister of Basic Education where my passion for effective communication and making a positive impact to a transforming society continues. In 2016 I completed my Honours Degree in Journalism and Media Studies at the University of Witwatersrand. I have extensive knowledge of the Parliamentary and policy development processes in SA.
