Loan/Credit Number: Credit No. 4278-KE; Project ID No. P095050
Contract/Bid Number: Expressions of Interest
Deadline: 3 December 2007
The Republic of Kenya has received financing from the World Bank toward the cost of the Western Kenya Community Driven Development and Flood Mitigation Project (WKCDD&FMP), and intends to apply part of the proceeds for consultant services. The services include Assessment of Levee/dykes Integrity and Floodplain Condition in the Downstream Region of the Nzoia River with a view to rehabilitating them.
The Project is undertaking flood management in the Nzoia River basin. The solution currently under consideration entails development of a multi-purpose flood control initiative, potentially consisting of one or more flood control structures. In order to assist in the decision making pertaining to the viability of the initiative it is necessary to assess the discharge capacity of the existing levied section in the downstream region of the Nzoia River.
Sedimentation in the levied section has reduced the discharge capacity of the river channel between the two levees. The objective of this consultancy is to determine the maximum discharge capacity of the channel and floodplain within the confines of the levees, and also to assess the social and economic impacts of flooding and to identify optimal approaches to manage the floodplain. Duration of this consultancy is expected to be 11 months.
The Project Coordination Unit, WKCDD&FMP, Ministry of State for Special Programs, Office of the President now invites eligible consulting firms to indicate their interest in providing the services. Interested consultancy firms must provide information indicating that they are qualified to perform the service (brochures, description of similar assignment(s), experience in similar assignment, availability of appropriate skills among staff etc.) which will enable us to short list suitable firms. A consultancy firm may associate with another firm(s) in order to enhance capacity to undertake the assignment.
A consultant will be selected in accordance with the procedures set out in the World Bank's Guidelines: Selection and Employment of Consultants by World Bank Borrowers (current edition).
Interested consultants may obtain further information at the address below during office hours i.e. 0900 to 1700 hours (East African time), Monday through Friday except public holidays.
