Organization for Economic Development and Cooperation members agreed to invite Estonia, Israel and Slovenia to join the powerful block toward the possible membership size of 34 countries.
OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría stressed that the inclusion of the three countries along with Chile “will contribute to a more plural and open OECD that is playing an increasingly important role in the global economic architecture.” She further emphasized that “once countries become members, this transformational process [of domestic policy reforms] continues.”
OECD membership has greatly helped countries like Sweden, Mexico and Korea to achieve OECD living standards. Chile has just assumed membership in early 2010 and talks with Russia is ongoing. Increased partnership is also forged with the developing economies of Brazil, China, India, Indonesia and South Africa.
