The ship convoy that aims to bring humanitarian aid and activists to the Gaza Strip is a “provocative” and “unnecessary” act, a high-ranking Israeli military official said, according to Ynet News. There is no food or equipment shortage in the Hamas-ruled enclave, he noted.
“The sail is a provocative act that is unnecessary in light of the figures, which indicate that the humanitarian situation in Gaza is good and stable,” said Colonel Moshe Levi, head of the IDF’s Gaza District Coordination Office.
Israel permits the transfer of select products into Gaza, Levi explained. Approximately 100 trucks enter the Strip everyday from Israel to deliver food, medicines, medical equipment, clothes, footwear and fuel, Ynet reports citing data from the IDF.
“We are not familiar with any shortages in any field, and we are permitting the entrance of different kinds of equipment into Gaza, as well as the exporting of produce from Gaza,” Levi explained.
