Julian Moti, former Solomon Islands attorney general, said Australian aid is “abetting corruption” following the recent Australian aid review, Solomon Star reports.
“This is what I call ‘AusAIDing and Abetting Corruption,’” Moti said.
As Devex reported, Australia’s aid program was criticized for huge payments to consultants and lucrative dealings with private firms.
Moti also revealed the “real” agenda of Australia in the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands or RAMSI, a partnership between the Solomons and 15 contributing countries of the Pacific region, including Australia and New Zealand.
“Now you can see why Pacific Islands nations are clubbed together under their regional control of RAMSI,” Moti said.
“Australia pays the piper and calls the tune. All Pacific Islands nations will be expected to vote for Australia’s election to UNSC [United Nations Security Council]. They will be disciplined and punished if they don’t,” he added.
Moti accused the Australian government of resorting to sovereign bribery and corruption to secure U.N. seat.
“That is a sound enough basis for its disentitlement. Australia doesn’t deserve that seat,” he added.
