The Center for Development Management (CDM) is the Asian Institute of Management’s (AIM) response to the challenge of sustaining Asian development. CDM’s mission is to mold students into the next generation of development leaders and agents of change within their respective countries and organizations. For CDM, management education is about developing the discipline of management in the development context, and employing a global outlook to create a diverse multinational learning environment, both to the advantage of its students who come from across Asia.
Development management at AIM began in 1976 with the Rural Development Management Program (RDMP). In 1985, the learnings from RDMP were developed into a four-week certificate course, the Program for Development Managers (PDM).
In 1989, PDM became the core of the first Master in Development Management (MDM) course.
In 1991, the Center for Development Management (CDM) was formally established as a program center and school at AIM.
CDM as we know it today is proof of its continued relevance to management and development beyond race, creed, gender and boundaries. Here, changed leaders, renewed organizations, and better Asian nations are built.
PROGRAMS
Master in Development Management (MDM) Program
The Master in Development Management (MDM) Program is an 11-month intensive, innovative and practitioner-oriented program designed to prepare development executives and practitioners for managing and leading public and civil society organizations, cooperatives and private non-profit firms in the context of economic and political transitions.
Development Executive Programs (DEPs)
CDM’s Development Executive Programs (DEPs) are short non-degree courses on specialized topics relevant to development workers. Training is intense and practitioner-oriented, combining AIM’s case methods, analyses, lectures, discussions and workshops. These programs are suitable for participants who need to return to work and apply what they learned immediately.
Development-At-Work Series
The Development-At-Work series creates a venue for intelligent exchange among known experts in development issues and AIM students. The series has thus far been successful in bringing in participants from various international organizations, government agencies, NGOs and other academic institutions.
