The United Nations Voluntary Trust Fund for Victims of Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children has secured pledges from six governments and one private sector donor during the past two weeks, according to the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime.
The fund’s donors so far include the governments of Belarus, Egypt, Malaysia, Luxembourg, Qatar and Thailand, as well as Naguib Sawiris, executive chairman of Orascom Telecom.
Launched Nov. 4, the fund will offer human trafficking victims with humanitarian, legal and financial aid through governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations.
