Catherine Ashton Adds More Members to EEAS Leadership Team

    By Eliza Villarino // 03 December 2010

Catherine Ashton, European Commission vice president and European Union high representative for foreign affairs and security policy, has made two new appointments for the recently launched European External Action Service: Robert Cooper as counselor and Agostino Miozzo as managing director for crisis response and operational coordination.

    >> Despite Budget Woes, EEAS Formally Launched

As counselor, Cooper will work with the EEAS policy board and perform “specific tasks that require high-level engagement at an intensive level,” Ashton said in a statement. He previously served as director-general for external and politico-military affairs at the General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union.

Until his appointment at EEAS, Miozzo was the general director of the Voluntary Service and International Relations Office of the Italian Civil Protection Department, the agency in charge of Italy’s emergency operations overseas.
