A contractor for the U.S. Agency for International Development has fired 10 of its employees in Afghanistan due to corruption allegations.

According to USAID Inspector General Donald Gambatesa, the DAI engineers and other staff members who were terminated reportedly connived with other bidding companies in helping secure contracts in exchange for kickbacks.

DAI Afghanistan has been implementing USAID’s Local Governance and Community Development Project since 2006. The project, with a total estimated cost of USD349 million, seeks to empower local communities to play an active role in achieving stability and fighting insurgency.

The investigation was conducted by multiple agencies, which include USAID’s Office of Inspector General and other members of the U.S. International Contract Corruption Task Force.
