Job Description

This is your opportunity to use your experience in communications and understanding of advocacy issues in a development context to help improve the lives and futures of some of the world’s most vulnerable children.

The Advocacy Specialist will cover advocacy support, strategic planning, and capacity building for Country Office (CO) and Area Programs. It will also provide advocacy support in humanitarian emergencies and high visibility events such as World AIDS day, World TB Day, World Water Day, etc.

You will include working closely with the communication team for the conceptualisation, coordination and harmonising localised or mass media behavioural change communication (BCC) strategies and the development of relevant materials in consultation with key beneficiaries and stakeholders. You will also ensure that advocacy strategies are in accordance with World Vision Pacific Timor Leste (PTL) and country strategy of Papua New Guinea (PNG).

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Ensure that project advocacy plans are in place and aligned with country strategy.
  • Analyse suitable opportunities for research which will enhance World Vision’s understanding of issues and draw national and international attention to key areas of injustice/poverty as well World Vision’s areas of operation/ministry.
  • Deploy immediately advocacy and communications support to Area Programs affected by disasters.
  • Contribute up to 25% of working time for PTL Advocacy deliverables and 75% of working time for in-country deliverables.

REQUIRED SKILLS INCLUDE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent in Journalism, Development Communications or Communication Arts
  • Excellent English communication skills (oral and written)
  • Proficiency in MS Office and print media software’s such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign
  • Understanding of advocacy issues in a development context especially in Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Timor Leste
  • Flexible, creative, analytical and a team-player
  • Requires travel of up to 30% of working time
