Job Description

Devex – the world’s leading media brand covering global development – seeks an Associate Editor to lead our coverage of recruitment and careers for the humanitarian aid, global health, and international development community.

This is the lead position for coverage of recruitment and careers in global development anywhere in the world. This high-profile role is based in our Washington, DC headquarters.

The Associate Editor will personally create high-quality original content, from feature articles to video interviews to how-to slide-shows. The Associate Editor will work closely with a team of Devex editors and the Director, Global Recruitment Services to help set editorial priorities, write original content, expand our web of freelance correspondents and bloggers, assign stories and edit coverage.

The ideal candidate is a journalist with a global mindset and a passion for serving an audience of aid workers and international development professionals. It’s best if you have experience related to both global development and producing career and recruitment news, but we will seriously consider strong candidates who do not yet have this experience. What’s most important are solid journalism skills, the ability to build a strong network of sources, and aptitude for juggling a variety of tasks without losing sight of broader strategic goals. Strong writing, interviewing and communication skills are of course also key.

This is an excellent opportunity for a journalist to hone their editorial, writing, and multimedia skills while building their profile with a large global audience. There are international travel opportunities and the chance to manage writers and build a network of relationships in this important and dynamic field.

Responsibilities:

The main responsibilities of the Associate Editor will focus on, but not be limited to the following:

  • Producing professional original content – articles, videos, slideshows, and social media – targeted to both recruiters and job seekers
  • Cultivating a global network of freelance journalists and bloggers, assigning stories, and editing content
  • As part of the content team, developing the strategic direction for Devex’s recruitment and careers coverage

Requirements:

  • At least two years of work experience as a journalist, including at least some editorial experience
  • Strong multimedia and social media skills
  • International travel experience, passion for global development, and demonstrated interest in recruitment and career issues
  • Relevant undergraduate degree
  • Existing work authorization in the United States

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Work experience at major news, lifestyle, and/or trade publications
  • Master’s degree from a top journalism or international affairs program
