Position: Grants Manager, USAID/Nicaragua Lifting Nicaraguan Voices
Location: Managua, Nicaragua
Period of Performance: Five Years

Summary of Position:

IREX seeks Grants Manager candidates for an anticipated five-year USAID-funded program to support the existence of an independent Nicaraguan civil society to effectively advocate for democratic principles, processes, and institutions. The Grants Manager will oversee the administrative, financial management and accountability requirements associated with the implementation of local grants, as well as the process of solicitation, competition and close out for grants under contract and programmatic short-term technical assistance.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Lead the solicitation, disbursement, management, and monitoring of grants
    Supervise the grants team
    Work closely with the program’s technical staff as well as CSOs, private sector entities, and other stakeholders
    Develop and maintain the program’s Grants Manual and ensure appropriate documentation of all subawards
    Review all grant/procurement activities for compliance with program policies and USG regulations
  • Contribute to program work planning, performance management, donor reporting, and strategic communications
  • Preform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; an advanced degree (Masters or PhD) is desirable
  • Minimum of five years of experience managing grants and working with local CSOs, preferably in Nicaragua or in the region
  • In-depth knowledge of USAID grantmaking regulations and protocols
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a range of technical staff and develop professional relationships with CSOs, private sector, and other donors
  • Experience working with innovative grant making methodologies and social ventures is preferred
  • Excellent written and spoken Spanish (English at the FSI 3/3 level; Spanish at the FSI 5/5 level)
  • General knowledge and understanding of the Nicaraguan political context and sensitivities of working on development issues in Nicaragua
  • Demonstrated ability to work in complex, politically charged, environments
