The Maternal Child Integrated Program (MCHIP), led by Jhpiego, with partners Save the Children and Population Services International (PSI), with funding from USAID is implementing a five year (2012-2017) integrated Service Delivery Program (ISDP) in South Sudan.
The goal of the Integrated Service Delivery Program’s (ISDP’s) is to increase access to high-quality primary health care services for all people in Central Equatoria State (CES) and Western Equatoria State (WES) in the Republic of South Sudan (RSS).
The child health strategy of the program applies effective, innovative approaches to increasing access to and use of key child health interventions that address the most important causes of child deaths and illnesses. This approach includes: an emphasis on community-level action; a focus on improving the quality of existing health services, as well as improving preventive and curative care provided at home; conducting operational research to understand and develop possible solutions to address existing barriers to high-quality care; and mobilization of support at state, county and community levels to create and sustain an enabling environment for the delivery of key child health interventions.
The child health specialist will have clinical background and skills, as well as program planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation including operational research skills and experience. S/he will provide technical support and assistance to project staff in field locations in child health and nutrition programming.
- Provide technical guidance on child health that informs content for in-service training that is technically sound, evidence-based and responsive to the needs of population of South Sudan.
- Provide technical assistance, using proven training approaches and quality improvement methodologies.
- Facilitate the use of standardized evidence-based guidelines and protocols for integrated service delivery.
- Advocate with and provide hands on support to county implementing partners and MoH for adoption of new evidence-based child health care best practices at health facilities as well as community level interventions.
- Advocate with community, NGOs, ministries, and religious leaders to support and promote child health care interventions.
- Provide technical assistance to build the capacity of county and community-level service providers in child health care.
- Provide training-of-trainers, follow-up support and clinical mentoring as necessary for child health care interventions.
- Contribute to and coordinate with the program’s monitoring and evaluation (M&E) team on activities to ensure that the program meets set targets in accordance with national and USG standards.
- Represents program at national, state and county level stakeholders’ meetings and technical working groups in relation to child health programming
- Contribute to child health interventions related annual work planning, training plans, quarterly reporting and other required technical reporting and programmatic updates.
- Contribute to timely, accurate and appropriate reporting of child health activities and performance results.
- Assist in conceptualizing, and providing leadership and strategic direction for child health program team.
- With the State Program Managers and the Technical Director, to oversee child health program design, implementation, quality assurance and monitoring of work plan.
- Evaluate child health program progress against deliverables on a quarterly basis.
- Ensure quality child health program implementation consistent with South Sudan MoH Guidelines and USAID South Sudan Strategic Directions.
- Coordinate with other members of the technical team and State Program Managers and NGO partners to develop and implement feasible community-based approaches to child health care.
