What are the risks involved in engaging the private sector in international development? How can the impact of public-private partnerships be measured?
Those are just some of the questions that groups like the European Center for Development Policy Management are looking at as aid groups increasingly partner with the private sector, ECDPM Policy Officer Bruce Byiers told Pete Troilo, director of global advisory and analysis at Devex, on the margins of the 2012 European Development Days.
“The positive aspect of it is of course there’s a lot to learn from the private sector,” Byiers said, noting that the aid community has struggled to achieve big development results on its own.
Watch the conversation between Troilo and Byiers on what drives increasing European donor engagement of corporations in development cooperation, part of a series of conversations we video-taped with global development leaders in the center of the action at EDD12 in Brussels.
