The Australian Council For International Development (ACFID) is an independent national association of Australian non-government organisations (NGOs) working in the field of international aid and development. ACFID currently has over 70 members.

ACFID was formerly known as ACFOA (The Australian Council For Overseas Aid). ACFID is based in Canberra, Australia.

What we do

ACFID supports a network of Australian NGOs, which have a shared commitment to poverty reduction and the promotion of human rights and dignity. It provides members with a range of services and opportunities to exert influence.

Accountability

The promotion and administration of high ethical standards and effective development practice, especially through the ACFID Code of Conduct.

 

Working with Government

By representing the sector to the Australian Government and other key stakeholders.

 

Humanitarian and emergencies

By providing a framework for active collaboration among agencies involved in humanitarian and emergency work.

 

Human Rights Project

A 2-year dedicated project to enhance protection and promotion of human rights and the achievement of the MDGs, and increase development impact by the adoption of a human rights-based approach.

 

Independent Aid Review

The Australian Government has established an independent panel to undertake a review on the future direction of Australia's aid program. The review will examine whether the current systems, policies and procedures for the aid program maximise effectiveness and efficiency.

 

Make Poverty History (MPH) campaign

By awareness raising and advocacy to ensure that Australia contributes effectively towards worldwide achievement of poverty alleviation in line with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Facilitating the exchange of information and learning about ways to improve the quality of service design and delivery.
