Job Description
The successful candidate will have a strong background in analytical work and drafting reports. The selected candidate will report to the Senior Analyst in the CCXG/CMP team.
Main Responsibilities
Stakeholder engagement and events
- Under the guidance of the Team Lead, and working closely with relevant colleagues , help to develop and organise CCXG and CMP events, including the Global Forum on the Environment and Climate Change, CCXG Meeting as well as events of the CMP.
- Contribute to planning and preparing CCXG input to UNFCCC conferences.
- Participate in relevant UNFCCC negotiations and CMP meetings – including presenting results of relevant CCXG and CMP analyses.
- Provide support as needed to related meetings and other activities involving the CCXG and CMP team.
Research and analysis
- Contribute to the research and drafting of analytical papers on issues related to the international climate change negotiations, carbon pricing and/or implementation of the Paris Agreement, as requested by CCXG and CMP delegates.
- Monitor relevant developments within the UNFCCC process and national climate policy implementation.
Wider responsibilities
- Support the CCXG and CMP team in updating or drafting relevant communications material to promote CCXG and CMP work and update the CCXG and CMP website working closely with colleagues in the relevant teams.
- Support fundraising activities by the CCXG and CMP team, e.g. preparing activity reports, developing funding proposals, liaising with delegates working closely with colleagues as appropriate.
- Support inputs by the CCXG and CMP team to briefings and speeches by senior OECD officials.
- Attend external events, internal meetings and webinars on behalf of the team to e.g. gather information, identify relevant contacts, share insights and developments with relevant ENV and other colleagues so as to inform ongoing work.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Academic Background
- An advanced university degree in economics, environmental economics, environmental sciences, environmental policy, climate policy, public policy or a related field.
Professional Background
- Two years of experience undertaking research and conducting analysis of climate policy, preferably within an international organisation, national administration or agency, research institute or organisation.
- Knowledge and understanding of selected aspects of the on-going international climate negotiations and climate policy topics (e.g. mitigation and/or adaptation responses, carbon markets and carbon pricing, transparency, climate finance).
- Experience in conducting qualitative and quantitative research and analysis.
- Experience with the organisation of meetings, workshops and conferences with a diverse range of participants would be an advantage.
- Ability to work in a diverse and international environment would also be an advantage, based on previous relevant experience (e.g. internships, study abroad semesters, etc.).
Communication and Languages
- Excellent written and oral command of one of the two official languages of the OECD (English and French) and working knowledge of, or willingness to learn, the other.
- Knowledge of other languages would be an asset
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to convey complex analysis simply and clearly in a style and tone appropriately tailored to the audience.
