SUMMARY OF ROLE
IntraHealth is seeking a Chief Technical Officer (CTO) who is responsible for shaping our technical agenda, driving new business based on technical priorities, and ensuring the quality of our technical products and services. The CTO will provide visionary leadership across IntraHealth’s strategic priorities that advances its thought leadership, grows its revenue base, and improves its impact around the world.
This position is located at our Headquarters Chapel Hill, NC office. A U.S. remote working option may also be considered.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Technical Strategy & Leadership (30%)
- Lead Center of Technical Excellence (CTE) efforts to provide technical rigor that drives global health impact to the organization’s programs, proposals, and external thought leadership efforts.
- Oversee the development and execution of technical strategy to grow organization’s impact globally and increase its reputation as the partner of choice across its areas of expertise.
- Facilitate efforts that improve efficiency and promote collaboration across the organization’s global footprint by leading the company’s technological roadmap.
- Foster processes that yield new innovations and approaches that save more lives.
- Cultivate a culture of data use for decision making at all levels.
Program Implementation (20%)
- Develop and strengthen project teams to ensure technical excellence in program implementation by engaging with donors to support delivery, identifying and securing technical resources that help programs delivery results, and introducing innovations and evidence-based practices that improve performance.
- Direct strategic information efforts and improve use of data across the organization to deliver stronger public health outcomes.
- Oversee global efforts to measure organization-wide public health impact. Contribute to efforts that strengthen country teams to measure program level impact.
Business Development (20%)
- Drive efforts to strengthen IntraHealth’s technical approaches in proposals. Contribute to technical strategy sessions and provide reviews to ensure our proposals include cutting edge and evidenced based approaches that demonstrate the depth and breadth of the organization’s technical capacity and highlight its innovative ways of working.
- Expand the organization’s partnerships with donors and other key stakeholders including the USG and other governments, implementers, and private sector actors in support of revenue generation efforts.
- Lead large scale, high leverage proposal efforts.
Health System Strengthening & Capacity Building (20%)
- Position IntraHealth as a leader in health systems strengthening, health workforce development, local capacity building, and pandemic preparedness in ways that facilitate new opportunities for growth and impact.
- Represent IntraHealth externally at the highest levels in the global health space and shape its reputation as a global leader in its areas of expertise and focus.
- Stay abreast of evolving technical priorities and trends in global health and ensure their integration into our project management and business development efforts.
People Development (10%)
- Develop a strong technical leadership team to ensure IntraHealth provides state-of-the-art technical assistance to its projects and proposals.
- Oversee technical capacity building efforts across the organization to ensure all staff have an appropriate understand of our work, based on their role in the organization.
- Support staff development efforts that improve their ability to generate new ideas, support best practices, promote open innovation that increases impact.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Masters degree in global health, technology management, business administration, or a related field plus 18 years of relevant work experience
- Medical Degree or PhD in related field (global health, health informatics) is preferred
- At least 10 years of progressive leadership experience in a global public health organization
- At least 10 years of experience supervising the execution of technical activities on donor funded public health programs
- At least 10 years of experience leading diverse teams in different cultures
- Experience in building a shared strategic technical vision across multiple departments or teams that yielded demonstrated public health outcomes
- Demonstrated experience leading successful business and proposal development efforts that secured large, multi-year donor awards
- Broad expertise across topics in global public health, including demonstrated command of current technical trends, evidence based best practices, and approach to using data for decision-making
- Recognized global expert across one or more of the following areas: health workforce development, digital health, infectious disease.
- Understanding of pandemic preparedness and response, or health systems strengthening
- Vision to plan and lead successful organization-wide strategic initiatives
- Ability to understand, analyze, manipulate, and explain complex public health data to inform programmatic approaches and program technical design
- Excellent understanding of the bilateral donor landscape, including of PEPFAR, USAID, and CDC
- Command of the priorities key non-bilateral donors, including foundations, corporations, and other actors
- High level contacts across the global public space, including with donors, implementers, government actors, and influencers
- Experience leading teams in a matrix management structure
- Refined communicator with excellent presentation and public speaking skills, and exceptional writing abilities
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Position involves both local and international travel.
- Position is office-based mostly involves sitting.
- Position requires occasionally lifting up to 10 lbs.
