Position Description:
USAID/BFS is seeking a remote Access Database Management Specialist to modify an Access database for the updated Farmer-to-Farmer (F2F) reports for the FY19-23 program and provide testing and training for its use, as needed. The consultant will present the database’s functions to key stakeholders and will also draft a guidance document on use and basic troubleshooting. The consultant will be needed for up to 30 days, with a start as soon as possible and will work remotely.
Responsibilities:
- Modify Microsoft Access database, drawing on relevant F2F documentation and input from the BFS POC
- Create look up tables as needed for new coded indicators
- Set up system for updating data from Excel files using linked tables, OBDC or similar, append, update queries
- Within Microsoft Access, build user form for custom queries and reports
- Create guidance document on use and basic troubleshooting for the database
- Presentation and demonstration of draft and finished database
- If time permits, analysis of FY14-18 data, using previously developed database system
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree required
- Years of Experience: 1-3 years’ experience with importing data, mainly from Microsoft Excel through linked tables, OBDC etc. and using update and append features to add information to existing database
- Must have Microsoft Access experience with using and navigating features, including building user forms, custom queries, reports the ability - Extensive experience preferred.
- Experience working with large and complex datasets
- Experience in developing and working with databases and with designing and manipulating database schema
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively and take initiative.
- Experience building error checking into import processes and doing data cleaning (exporting error rows, identifying typos and category mismatches, etc.)
- Experience with the F2F Program and related program indicators is desirable but not required.
