Opportunity

EI is seeking an Adaptive Management Communications and Knowledge Management Specialist (CKM Specialist) for the anticipated USAID-funded Highlands Resilience Platform for Adaptive Learning (R-PAL) Activity in Ethiopia. This activity will provide USAID/Ethiopia and Ethiopia Highlands Resilience partners with project and technical assistance to advance the use of evidence, adaptive management techniques, and Collaborating, Learning, and Adapting (CLA) practices and principles to facilitate evidence-based program iteration and adoption. This Activity will also support innovation within USAID’s Highlands programming to drive early adoption and scaling of new rigorously tested approaches.

Among other responsibilities, the incumbent will ensure knowledge management (KM) for generating, capturing and sharing knowledge to maintain institutional memory that can be utilized within and between partner organizations, and provide knowledge products related technical support and capacity strengthening to partners.

The CKM Specialist will work as part of a larger team to advance adaptive management. Expected results of the Adaptive Management team’s work include:

  • Increased capacity of partners to intentionally make decisions and adjust in response to new information and change in the context
  • Partners have increased change readiness and established organizational adaptation management and metrics
  • Highlands partners reporting increased use of data-driven programmatic adaptations
  • Local partners engaged in adaptive management processes valuation
  • Program learning feedback loops are created and used to inform decision making

The CKM Specialist will therefore support a diverse array of communications and knowledge management needs to support the learning and knowledge sharing priorities of the activity.

This is a full-time position contingent upon USAID award. Ethiopian nationals are strongly encouraged to apply.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain communications templates and protocols for the R-PAL activity.
  • Ensure that the activity follows all USAID branding and marking requirements.
  • Ensure that activity learning and knowledge products are appropriately stored, and made available, for stakeholders.
  • Manage activity’s social media channels.
  • Support the creation of clear and concise reports and knowledge-sharing products, including infographics.
  • Support the implementation of knowledge-sharing and learning events.
  • Provide training and capacity-building on communications and knowledge management best practices to USAID, IP staff, and Ethiopian stakeholders.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field required, advanced degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 8 years’ experience supporting communications and
  • knowledge management for donor-funded projects, preferably USAID.
  • Experience creating and maintaining knowledge-management systems.
  • Experience supporting the development of high-quality written products.
  • Experience with video and photo communications strongly preferred.
  • Experience using social media channels for outreach purposes.
  • Excellent planning, management, and communication skills, ability to work in teams.
  • Strong proficiency in written and spoken English and Amharic.
Base Station

The position will be based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Due to the circumstances surrounding COVID-19, the position will begin remotely. Being present in the office on multiple days per week is an expectation once we reopen offices, which is expected to commence in line with local recommendations and guidelines.
