Job Description

Duration: 26 weeks

Tasks to Be Completed Support to GCO Adolescent Girls’ Consultations and Regional Girls’ Summit
  • Establish and Engage the GCO Adolescent Girl Advisory Group:
    • Support outreach, selection, onboarding, and capacity building of members.
    • Ensure meaningful participation in UNICEF Ghana’s adolescent and gender programmes.
    • Amplify peer voices in events such as the Regional Girls’ Summit.
  • Coordinate Ghana’s Participation in the Regional Adolescent Girl Summit:
    • Prepare and mobilize adolescent girl delegates.
    • Document national promising practices.
    • Produce relevant advocacy materials in collaboration with Communications and Partnerships teams.
  • Amplify Visibility and Regional Advocacy:
    • Ensure Ghanaian girls’ voices are reflected in regional dialogues.
    • Promote advocacy positioning girls as key actors in policy and initiative development.
  • Review UNICEF Ghana Program Documents:
    • Analyze documents (concept notes, reports, work plans) to ensure gender-responsive and transformative integration.
  • Support Gender Mainstreaming Across Sectors:
    • Develop and disseminate internal guidelines, tools, and best practices (Health, Education, WASH, Child Protection, Social Policy).
  • Contribute to Evidence Generation:
    • Provide research support and organize gender-disaggregated data on adolescent and gender issues.
  • Support Communication and Advocacy:
    • Gather programmatic insights for use in briefs, success stories, and key messages.
  • Facilitate Coordination and Knowledge Management:
    • Plan and document meetings, workshops, and events.
    • Maintain the Adolescent & Gender SharePoint collaboration site.
Support to the Adolescent Girls Empowerment Project (AGP II)
  • Coordinate and document AGP II activities, especially UNICEF’s contributions.
  • Support data collection, monitoring, and reporting with a focus on adolescent girl-centered outcomes.
  • Compile human-interest stories, program data, and lessons learned for communication and advocacy materials.
Support to the Health Section (Secondment)
  • Support the Safety Net project with gender-responsive implementation.
  • Assist initiatives for pregnant adolescent girls’ access to health services.
  • Contribute to the development of Adolescent Girls Parenting Programs.
  • Support the design of an e-tracking tool for adolescent health and gender outcomes.
  • Participate in field data collection across regions in Ghana.
Expected Deliverables
  • Analytical reviews of program documents with gender integration recommendations.
  • Meeting minutes, agendas, and background documents.
  • Research briefs and data compilations (e.g., on MHM, teenage pregnancy, girls’ education).
  • Program briefs, advocacy messages, success stories for the Adolescent & Gender section.
  • Regularly updated SharePoint collaboration site.

For AGP II Support:

  • Coordination notes and preparatory documents.
  • Contributions to monitoring reports and data summaries.
  • Communication drafts and compiled project data.

For Health Section Support:

  • Documentation and reports on Safety Net implementation.
  • Materials for pregnant adolescents and parenting programs.
  • Specifications for the e-tracking tool.
  • Field data collection reports.
Supervision and Reporting
  • Supervised by the Gender Programme Specialist, UNICEF Ghana Country Office, Accra.
  • Receives technical guidance from the Health Section Program Specialist.
  • Collaborates with the UNV Program Officer and other internal and external partners.
  • Completion of internship evaluation form required.
Duration and Payment
  • Time Frame: 26 weeks (6 months)
  • Payment:
    • Interns not receiving stipends and based in Accra/Tamale will receive 70% of the net GS-3 Step 1 salary per month.
  • Official Travel:
    • Reimbursed travel costs for official travel outside Accra (meals/accommodation not to exceed DSA).
    • Field travel should be limited to reduce costs and risks.
Internship Status
  • Interns are not considered staff members.
  • Must respect UNICEF’s rules and maintain impartiality and confidentiality.
  • Not permitted to represent or communicate on behalf of UNICEF externally.
  • Must avoid conflicts of interest and behaviors that reflect poorly on UNICEF.
General Conditions
  • Based in UNICEF Ghana Country Office, Accra.
  • Office will provide necessary equipment.
  • Interns responsible for travel to/from duty station, accommodation, and living expenses.
  • Must comply with UNICEF’s internship guidelines, including proof of health/medical insurance.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Education:
    • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in:
      • Social Sciences, Gender Studies, International Development, Public Health, Education, Sociology, Psychology, or related fields.
  • Documentation:
    • Letter confirming enrolment or recent transcript/certificate of graduation (within past 2 years).
  • Experience:
    • Demonstrated interest in child rights, gender equality, adolescent development, or program support (via internships, volunteering, academic projects).
    • Report writing and research experience preferred.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher).
    • Experience with digital collaboration tools is an asset.
  • Language:
    • Fluency in English required.
    • Knowledge of another UN language or local Ghanaian language is an asset.
  • Restrictions:
    • No relatives (parents or siblings) may work at UNICEF.
    • No direct reporting line to any related staff member.
