Summary

The Advisor, Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health plays an essential leadership role in managing the ASRH team, covering programs in 17 countries and guiding strategic vision for ASRH. Working closely with country offices and the Department of Global Health, the Advisor ensures that ASRH programs are evidence-based and align with reproductive health team’s strategic approaches with reproductive health programing for Very Young Adolescent, Older Adolescents and First Time Parents. S/he plays a critical leadership role in proposal development and driving programmatic excellence across Save the Children’s global movement through the creation of ASRH common approaches. The Advisor combines strong program technical knowledge with exceptional project and team management skills and the ability to lead by influence. S/he will bring the gravitas to represent Save the Children’s growing ASRH portfolio externally.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Impact

Lead the ASRH team and cross-sector collaborators to articulate ASRH program strategy and Theory of Change. (30%)

Foster collaborative working relations, a results orientation and a holistic vision amongst the ASRH team members and collaborators in the education and livelihoods departments to inspire quality thematic results. Ensure program approaches are evidence-based and aligned with our vision for age and life-stage ASRH programming. Manage and inspire ASRH teams learning agenda, innovations and documentation efforts.

Provide Technical Leadership and support for quality programming and innovation (20%)

Provide technical assistance to support high quality design, implementation, monitoring, learning and evaluation of ASRH programs, including efforts on very young adolescents, strengthening demand and supply of SRH and family planning services for older adolescents and first time parents. Strengthen the capacity of country office staff to implement quality ASRH programing using state-of-the art approaches and identify opportunities for innovation.

Lead Resource Mobilization to grow the ASRH portfolio and maintaining Save the Children’s ASRH leadership (30%)

In collaboration with Department of Global Health senior leadership, position SC as a market leader in ARSH and provide strategic leadership on USG opportunities, from teaming to proposal development. Lead proposal development for ARSH work and provide and input into integrated health services opportunities. Work with resource development to identify new ASRH opportunities from private foundations, corporate partners and individual donors. Guide program growth and funding for innovation through sponsorship programs.

Raise the visibility of Save the Children ASRH capacity (20%)

Lead the Save the Children International ASRHR Strategy Group and ASRH growth with smaller Save the Children members. Represent Save the Children externally in technical working groups, consultations and conferences, as well as with donors and multi-lateral stakeholders.

Impact

This position is the most senior ASRH team member, managing a person technical assistance team. As a sub-team on the Maternal and Reproductive Health team, this position plays a critical role in meeting our strategic vision for maternal sand reproductive health. This position leads by influence, requiring a high level of maturity, a sense of responsibility and passion for ASRH. Key accountabilities include leading the execution of the ASRH strategic plan and developing annual workplans, ensuring programs are state-of the art and evidence based, ensuring the team is united around a learning agenda and documenting results to increase visibility and galvanizing cross sector programming for adolescents.

Required Background and Experience, Skills and Behaviors

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience with progressive senior-level program and project management. At least 5 years implementing international RH programs required.
  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in public health or related field required, Master’s or PhD strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in proposal development.
  • Requires strong leadership and communication skills, energetic, passionate, patient, proactive and self-motivated.
  • Have wide range of experience in adolescent inclusive reproductive health programming and be recognized leader in this field with the ability to be strategic, while still being able to manage the day-to-day management of the ASRH team and operational plan.
  • Requires supervisory skills to oversee a team of, at least, four technical staff, and teambuilding skills to work effectively across a thematic departments involved in adolescent programming.
  • Ability to communicate in an additional language (French) desirable;
  • Willingness to travel internationally at least 30%
