Only applications that fit the profile of the position will be considered. Candidates will be treated equally regardless of gender and HIV/AIDS status. UNICEF is a tobacco-free environment. WORKPLACE: Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil.

DURATION: 6 months, 20 hours per week.

Since 1950, UNICEF has supported the most important transformations in the area of childhood and adolescence in Brazil.

In recent decades, Brazil has promoted a strong process of including children and adolescents in public policies. However, a significant portion of the population remains excluded. Therefore, UNICEF focuses its efforts on the most excluded, vulnerable, and victims of extreme forms of violence.

These vulnerable children are found throughout the country, but with a higher concentration in the Amazon, the Semi-Arid region, and large urban centers. Through the UNICEF Seal and the UNICEF City Agenda, UNICEF reaches nearly 2,000 municipalities in the Legal Amazon and Semi-Arid regions, as well as 15 Brazilian state capitals.

With everyone’s engagement, UNICEF hopes to promote positive changes that can potentially impact the lives of all children and adolescents in Brazil. Check out UNICEF’s main areas of action in the country here: https://www.unicef.org/brazil/o-que-fazemos

In 2022, UNICEF will launch the #UNICEFCityAgenda in eight Brazilian capitals in partnership with municipal governments in major Brazilian urban centers to promote the rights and opportunities of the most vulnerable children and adolescents, contributing to the prevention of violence in their lives. Currently in its second edition, the initiative is taking place in Belém, Fortaleza, Manaus, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, São Luís, and São Paulo.

Together with civil society organizations, businesses, and communities and adolescents themselves, the Agenda proposes a joint effort to ensure that every child and adolescent is in school, learning, grows up with opportunities for productive inclusion, has access to services to protect against violence, and has their overall health and well-being assured.

To strengthen UNICEF Brazil’s work in preventing and combating violence against children and adolescents, especially armed violence, the UNICEF office in Rio de Janeiro has been dedicated to deepening understanding of this situation through evidence-gathering and advocacy efforts. In this way, it seeks to expand its response, contributing more specific and effective strategies that ensure the protection of those most in need in this challenging environment.

But in many parts of the developing world, they can save a child's life. UNICEF is unique among world organizations and unique among those working with young people. As a global movement, we use our authority to influence decision makers and diverse partners to turn the most innovative ideas into reality. In 155 countries and territories, UNICEF's field staff uses hard-won expertise to meet the challenges facing children and those who care for them. Our history has given us a profound understanding of development and the importance of child health, education, equality and protection in advancing humanity. All that we do helps children realize their full potential. In support of UNICEF's work, the U.S. Fund for UNICEF focuses on five major priorities: education, emergencies, HIV/AIDS, immunization and malnutrition.
