Position Summary

IBTCI is currently looking for a Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (MNCH) Expert for a mid-term evaluation of USAID/Kenya’s AIDS, Population, and Health Integrated Assistance (APHIAplus) program. APHIAplus is a cooperative program that aims to strengthen leadership, governance, and management of health care services at the community and service level. Addressing the two result areas of a) Increased use of quality health services, products and information and b) Social determinants of health addressed to improve the well-being of the community, especially marginalized, poor and underserved populations, the APHIAplus works to:

  • Scale up health service delivery and build capacity
  • Strengthen health information systems
  • Improve water, sanitation, and hygiene
  • Address gender issues and maternal and child health
  • Establish food security
  • Encourage health behaviors.

The MNCH Expert will be hired for the duration of the evaluation and assist the team leader in the design of the evaluation and its implementation.. She/he should have experience with public health in Kenya and familiarity with major health issues in Kenya including: HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, maternal, neonatal and child health, and family planning.

Responsibilities:

The MNCH Expert shares responsibility to fulfill the project’s scope of work with other team members. She/he must assist in the evaluation design, evaluation work plan, sample selection, data collection, data analysis and report writing.. The MNCH Expert will work in conjunction with other team experts to produce the following deliverables:

  • Detail and well though-out outline of the methodological approach for the evaluation.
  • In-countrybriefstoUSAID/Kenyaonprogressanddiscussproblemsandissues.
  • An in-country presentation to USAID on the main findings at the end of the evaluation.
  • Draft report and final evaluation report.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years experience in MNCH.
  • Master’s Degree or equivalent in Public Health or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting research and/or evaluations
  • Extensive knowledge of the Kenyan public health system.
  • Familiarity with health issues relevant to Kenya including: HIV/AIDS, Malaria, maternal, newborn and child health, and family planning.
  • Good understanding of MNCH and HIV/AIDS integration programming
  • Excellent organizational, written and spoken communication skills.
  • Previous experience with USAID-funded projects preferred.
  • Fluency in English is required.
