Devex Talent Solutions is assisting E3G in looking for an experienced foreign policy practitioner and thought leader for their growing Climate Diplomacy and Geopolitics Programme.
As a recognised global leader in climate diplomacy, geopolitics and international governance, E3G is an independent, non-partisan, and nonprofit organization working to shape the integration of climate change into geopolitical relations and make international governance regimes fit for purpose in a world impacted by climate change.
The Associate Director position is ideally based in E3G’s offices in Washington DC or London.
Context and Focus
Staying within the Paris 1.5C temperature goal requires the complete transformation of the global economy in three decades to reach net zero CO2 emissions and ensure resilience against the worsening climate impacts. This transition is the most ambitious project humanity has ever attempted, and its success will require fundamental changes to international regimes and to how countries work together. Effective climate action requires significant international cooperation, including a strong United Nations climate treaty and international regimes covering trade, finance, security and international development that are fit for purpose in a world impacted by climate change.
Climate change has emerged as a “top table” diplomatic issue as the world is becoming increasingly defined by geopolitical rivalries. It will impact the geopolitical context and strategies of all countries, including primary actors like the United States, China, and the European Union, who are increasingly compelled to fully integrate their climate policy interests and manage the inevitable geopolitical tensions caused by climate change and the energy transition.
This is the context in which E3G pursues its goal of a safe climate for all. For more than fifteen years, E3G has successfully delivered innovative diplomatic, policy and institutional approaches at national and international levels, playing an active role in working with governments and non-state actors around and into the G-7, G-20, the international financial institutions and the UNFCCC process.
The E3G Climate Diplomacy and Geopolitics (CDG) team is focused on the intersection of climate change with the 21st century geopolitical landscape. The team - based in the United States, United Kingdom, and across the European Union - draws upon on research and expertise from across E3G programmes focused on clean energy and the energy transition, sustainable finance, climate risk, and political economy.
