Overall Function
The Associate Vice President (AVP), Global Climate Cooperation will provide overall vision, strategy and leadership for the Global Climate Cooperation team, with a focus on multilateral fora and climate adaptation finance issues. The AVP will identify strategic opportunities, develop and lead the implementation of bold and equitable global climate solutions, and ensure consistent execution. The AVP will coordinate closely with EDF’s carbon markets team, as well as across EDF’s strategic initiatives to ensure cohesive international advocacy and communications at climate COPs and other international fora. The AVP will work independently and support the Vice President of Global Climate Cooperation to provide leadership of the overall Global Climate Cooperation team.
Qualifications
- Advanced degree with at least 12 years of relevant work experience with demonstrated success and impact.
- Strong understanding of climate adaptation and climate finance issues at global and national level and familiarity with key stakeholders and networks.
- A collaborative leadership style, with proven ability to empower and inspire staff, support learning, motivate performance, and promote staff retention.
- Experience managing large teams, preferably in a regional or global organization/institution.
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing a strategic vision.
- Demonstrated ability to fundraise and cultivate donor relationships.
- Strong entrepreneurial capabilities and ability to foster innovation.
- Excellent communication skills, experience with public speaking and working with the media.
- Demonstrated experience building and maintaining effective relationships with relevant stakeholders, including media, elected officials, and academic institutions.
- A strong understanding of public policy with a proven track record of building alliances and working with country delegations.
- Demonstrates self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds.
- Successful experience in leading and delivering equitable outcomes.
- Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Position will require approximately 20% travel.
