Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES Within the context of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, the AUtomated SYstem for CUstoms DAta (ASYCUDA) programme is seeking candidates for the above post. The candidate will be involved in the development of the latest version of ASYCUDA. This version of the ASYCUDA system computerizes all Customs Business processes. This includes risk-management and selectivity, through the Selectivity Module, the valuation control, through its integrated WTO valuation system, and the automation and control of Transit. The ASYCUDAWorld system is based on state-of-the-art IT technologies (web, Java etc).

Development on ASYCUDAWorld consists of: • Enhancing the system with new electronic documents. These documents will have to be developed using recent programming language such as Java. • Enhancing the system with tools taking into account the latest technologies in information technology using 4th generation technology • Developing technical documentation • Developing associated user manuals. The IT Programmer shall carry out his duties in close cooperation with the ASYCUDAWorld Information Technology Coordinator. He/she will act under the administrative and technical supervision of the Head of the ASYCUDA Program.

The candidate shall: • Use Java to develop e-documents that will be defined by the ASYCUDA Central Team. • Produce technical documentation • Document the source code as will be specified by the ASYCUDA Central Team • Participate at the execution of quality control on ASYCUDAWorld following the project methodology. • Support the user countries • Deliver ASYCUDAWorld Technical Training in the user countries • Participate in technical assistance support missions

QUALIFICATIONS Education Advanced university degree in Computer Science and/or Telecommunications. Working Experience Some relevant working experience desirable. Preference will be given to young university graduates having knowledge of the latest IT trends. Languages English and French are the two working languages of the United Nations. For the post advertised, fluency in English and Spanish is required. Working knowledge of a third UN official language is considered an advantage.

Knowledge in Imaging processing (transformation, comparison,…), audio processing. • Client Orientation – Ability to establish and maintain productive partnerships with clients, and with International or National agencies, by gaining their trust and respect.
