SDA Design Consultants, a part of the NIRAS group, is a multi-disciplinary civil and structural engineering consultancy based in Kegworth, Derbyshire. The firm offers civil and structural engineering design services to a range of clients, project types and values. Due to increasing project commissions and appointments, the firm seeks to appoint a full-time BIM Coordinator to support the project delivery team.

The BIM coordinator will provide technical support directly to project team members and report to the project lead, providing feedback on the team’s requirements for training, workflows or content.

About the job

Core responsibilities will include:

  • Initial project setup and attending project kick-off meetings to advise on BIM implementation
  • Maintaining project BIM models and associated project BIM support documents
  • Performing BIM coordination exercises
  • Contributing towards negotiations of BIM deliverables in contracts
  • Training teams in relevant workflows and software packages both internally and externally
  • Provide ongoing support, troubleshooting and guidance for BIM workflows and standards
  • Monitoring the performance and quality levels of BIM models
  • Ensuring BIM models satisfy the prescribed project-specific BIM requirements and keep to BIM standards
  • Author and maintain project BEP and collaborative documents to ensure effective communication between consultants
  • Managing consultant information and ensuring compliance with BEP and project standards
  • Carrying out clash detection and chair / run clash detection meetings, reporting findings and providing possible solutions
  • Support the creation of in house standards and training to support various teams across the business
  • Identifying opportunities to improve BIM workflows in correlation with all aspects of the practice




About you

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a BIM coordinator for large scale multidisciplinary projects
  • Knowledge and experience of Autodesk Revit and related software and plugins
  • Knowledge and experience of Solibri or similar for model checking and clash detection
  • Knowledge and experience of BIM360
  • Knowledge of Dynamo is highly beneficial
  • Knowledge and experience of legacy CAD applications and practices
  • Experience in delivering projects to BIM standards with validation and QA processes
  • Familiarity with common data environment practices is beneficial
  • Experience with large scale/complex international projects is beneficial
  • Familiarity with relevant standards PAS1192 and ISO19650
  • Extremely technically competent
  • Highly organised with attention to detail
  • Able to motivate and influence people
  • Able to present ideas and workflows both graphically and verbally
