Global Communities is seeking a Business Development Manager to join the Business Development team at the headquarters in downtown Silver Spring, Maryland.
The Business Development Manager, primarily serving as proposal manager and as contributing writer as needed, s/he will also train and mentor staff throughout the department on topics relevant to business development. The ideal candidate will have a successful track record of leading new business efforts in international development with US Government clients, particularly the U.S. Agency for International Development. Some experience with other non-USG public and private sector donors is also required.
* Lead the entire lifecycle of new business development from capture support and bid tracking to proposal development, submission, and follow-up on an assigned subset of P2’s portfolio of opportunities.
* Lead proposal development in response to requests for proposals, including those for field-based projects and large global opportunities such as IDIQs. This will involve management of proposal teams, calendars, and deadlines; strategy development with technical staff; partner identification and negotiations; recruiting; writing; production; and after-action reviews.
* Serve as section writer for proposals as needed and appropriate, in tandem with other proposal team members.
* Contribute to business development systems, tools, and process improvement initiatives as needed.
* Develop, lead, and coach P2 staff working in business development full time or as a part of their responsibilities in an organizational environment that supports adaptive management, quality, and learning.
* May supervise one or more Business Development Officers and mentor/coach them to encourage their growth.
* Actively participate in increasing GC’s visibility at industry and technical-specific events, along with potential partner and intelligence gathering, networking and analysis.
* Master’s degree and 5 years’ experience working for an international development organization, with at least 3 years as a proposal manager or team lead on large USAID proposals. Or, the equivalent of a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 8 years’ of stated experience with 3 years as a proposal team lead on large USAID proposals.
* Demonstrated experience leading and writing full proposals for USG funds.
* Experience with other USG agencies and non-USG donors such as those in the private sector.
* Demonstrated expertise within one or more of Global Communities’ technical areas, including field-based experience, is desirable.
* Must have U.S. work authorization.
