SUMMARY
The Business Development Specialist position will support ChildFund International’s overall grant acquisition and management strategy. The business development specialist supports overall grant acquisition efforts in two French speaking ChildFund National Offices where ChildFund presently has its most innovative community health interventions. The Business Development Specialist acts as proposal manager in proposals that range between $500,000 and $5,000,000 in total award value. The Business Development Specialist coordinates large scale complex proposals with a budget over $5 million. The Specialist is a member of ChildFund’s knowledge management sub-team and will support use of ChildFund’s web based system of record (Salesforce). This position allows for travel of up to 30% of the time, and TDYs to National Offices.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Proposal Development: Lead business development/ grant acquisition focal point for two National Offices, supporting development of proposals from capture to negotiation. This position has frequent interactions with National Office field staff, as well as ChildFund technical experts. This position will allow for professional development in the area of project design and budget development, and will allow the incumbent to expand its personal network with DC based peer organizations.
• Representation: This position will represent ChildFund in strategic technical conferences, meetings and round tables. This is an exceptional opportunity for the incumbent to expand his/her technical knowledge on sectors relevant to ChildFund’s work, and expand his/her networks. The position also supports the development of capacity statements and Past Performance References to be shared with peer organizations, donors and to be included in proposals.
• Proposal Recruitment: The Business Development Specialist supports the update of ChildFund’s consultant database.
• Development of Capture Plans: Conducts research on donor priorities and National Offices programmatic strengths, and supports National Offices in development of capture plans.
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
• At least 5 years international development and/or non-profit experience required, with some field experience preferred.
• Ability to read and speak French is required.
• Outstanding writing skills in English.
• Familiarity with or interest in community health approaches preferred.
• Previous experience acting as proposal coordinator of complex multi-million dollar USAID proposals, or as lead proposal writer of proposals in the $100,000 to $2 million range.
• Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of USG donors (i.e. USAID, DOL, State, etc.) multilateral, foundations, and other institutions’ grant making initiatives.
• Experience or training in the development of budgets for proposals. Interest in building cost analysis and budget development skills.
• In-depth knowledge of Word, Advanced Excel skills, Powerpoint, Visio, Project, and Adobe
• Travel of up to 30% of the time to ChildFund’s National Offices.
EDUCATION
BA/BS required. MA or equivalent experience in public administration, international relations or a related field preferred
