CARANA seeks a Footwear Industry Expert to complete a benchmarking study for our USAID-funded Nicaragua Enterprise and Employment (E&E) program. E&E works in the areas of SME development and services, trade capacity building, policy reform, leadership for competiveness, and research into trade obstacles faced by small and medium enterprises.
Worldwide, footwear manufacturing operations, which are labor-intensive, are mostly concentrated in Asia. However, Nicaragua may be well positioned to attract more investments of the footwear manufacturing industry due to its competitive labor cost structure, speed to market, availability of leather and preferential trade agreements with important markets, including the United States, the European Union, Mexico, and Taiwan, among others. A short-term consultant is needed to complete a benchmarking study for the Nicaraguan footwear industry. The results of the study should clearly point out Nicaragua’s competitiveness as an investment destination for the footwear manufacturing industry, clearly demonstrating the extent in which the country holds the adequate features to attract and sustain high-quality footwear manufacturers and exports, along with their support companies, as well as recommendations to strengthen and further develop the industry.
Short-term travel to Nicaragua may be necessary.
