Job Description
I.M. Systems Group, Inc. (IMSG) is seeking a Catastrophe Modeling Specialist to work with a team on a one-year program focused on catastrophe risk assessment and modeling in the Philippines. The responsibilities and qualifications are described in the following position description. Position is contingent upon receipt of donor funding.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Review scientific studies performed on the severity and frequencies of major perils in the Philippines
- Develop probabilistic hazard modules for each of the selected perils
- Develop loss profiles for the Philippines
- Calibrate the models based on historical events
- Fully collaborate with peer reviewers of the catastrophe risk models
- Participate in at least two missions in the Philippines
Skills and Qualifications
- Advanced degree (Master’s or doctorate) in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or Earth Science
- A minimum of eight years of progressively responsible experience in insurance, reinsurance, underwriting, or catastrophe modeling
- Experience with implementing catastrophe modeling with a national government or with a relevant technical assistance project in at least one developing region desired; experience in working with implementing catastrophe modeling in the Philippines preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills for establishing and maintaining good external and internal relationships
